We established Half Moon Brewery in 2013, a culmination of a life-long desire to produce our own real ales. Our 5 barrel micro-brewery is located in the original blacksmiths forge next to our house which lies in the idyllic village of Ellerton, Nr York.
The house has a long association with the brewing industry, having been run as a pub called the Half Moon for 40 years or so in the 1800’s by the then Blacksmith George Huntswick, hence the name. With its origins dating back to the 1700’s the forge continued to serve Ellerton’s blacksmith until 1968.
The forge has now been sympathetically renovated to house the brewery which now produces hand crafted real ale as opposed to horse shoes.
We are delighted to have our own local Sensory Consultant, Jo Menneer, on board. Jo helps us with our beer sampling and also creates our tasting notes (it’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it!).
